A unique characteristic at Dornhügel is our Basotho horse-stud. The Basotho horse comes from Lesotho.

Volker and Susanne Ledermann are the founders of the horse stud and horse people entirely.  They acquired their stud stallions and mares directly from the indigenous tribes of Lesotho.

These enduring horses are approximately 140 – 150 cm high. They are cooperative, pleasant to ride and are as a result suited for long distance rides, as well as riding in rocky terrain. When they reach maturity with 3 ½ years they are being started at the Etusis Lodge. The geldings are then being used for the guests.

At Dornhügel we don´t ride but our stud stallions are real eye candy.
